6 Faulty N80 Valve. An N80 valve, or the EVAP purge valve, is very common to fail in many Audi and Volkswagen engines, including the A3. The N80 valve is a component in the EVAP system that regulates the fuel vapors that are recycled into the intake manifold to get burned off.
Hedid tell me that the 1.9 engine in the above were somewhat bullet proof and extremely easy to work on,but he has a hell of a lot of 2.0 tdi VW and Audi cars in with engine problems on a regular basis. Take that with a pinch of salt, but I did buy a 1.9.
Forused Audis with a 1.8T or 2.0T, go with an EA113 or Gen 3 EA888 engine. Volkswagen owns Audi, the two brands often share engines.
